Edge Center

A renovated Edge Center will serve the Institute in multiple ways. As home base for Georgia Tech Athletics, the Edge Center will provide student-athletes with the latest in sports medicine, nutrition, and academic support. Faculty and staff will benefit from the proposed addition of 25,000 square feet to support more teams and programs. Furthermore, the renovated structure itself will enhance Georgia Tech’s brand, as the light-filled, open design will encourage fans, non-student-athletes, and passers-by to interact with Institute Athletics.

With the Athletics Initiative 2020 deadline in sight, an anonymous donor has established a $10 million challenge grant to meet funding goals for the $70 million Edge Center renovation.

How the challenge grant works

Donors participating in the challenge must make either a qualifying gift or a multi-year commitment, payable over a five-year period, by June 30, 2020 — payable over a five-year period prior to June 30, 2025. Gifts will be matched dollar-for-dollar by the anonymous donor.

Qualifying gifts and commitments

Only new gifts and commitments made on or after December 1, 2019, and designated for the Edge Center renovation qualify.

Naming rights and recognition

The anonymous donor is conveying all commemorative naming opportunities — including the challenge grant portion — to the qualifying donors, who may name the respective area in Edge in their own name(s) or in honor or memory of someone else. Qualifying donors will gain naming opportunities for twice their actual gift level.

Naming opportunities

While all gifts and commitments are welcome, the minimum level for individual recognition is $25,000, which includes a listing of all donors prominently displayed within the new facility and reflecting this level of giving and above. Individual commemorative gift opportunities start at $125,000.

Significant commemorative gift opportunities at $1 million and above are available for high-profile spaces such as the atrium; individual team office suites; outdoor terraces; and designated areas such as sports medicine, student-athlete leadership, student commons/dining, innovation, and analytics/performance.

Corporate matches, foundations, and other organizations

Corporate matches are welcome, with the entire amount qualifying for the challenge. Gifts and commitments from foundations, donor-advised funds, and corporations are also welcome.

Do estate provisions or trusts qualify?

No. Only outright gifts and five-year commitments qualify for the match.

When does the challenge expire?

The challenge is in place from December 1, 2019 – June 30, 2020, or until the $10 million is fully committed, whichever comes first. All gifts and five-year commitments to the Edge Center renovation received during this period will qualify for the match.
